Australia is the number one choice of immigration aspirants around the globe. The reasons are simple. Australia, unlike other developed countries, welcomes talent with arms wide open. Australia enjoys an enigmatically diverse culture where you will find peaceful coexistence of the society regardless of the cast, creed or colour. Also, in contrast to other immigration processes marred by red tape and dubiousness; Australia offers a straightforward migration process that is defined in detail and caters to nearly all migration cases. Due to this policy of openness, acceptance and transparency, thousands of migrants call Australia home every year.
The Australian society is primarily based on the concept of a united family. Thousands of migrants leave their home and heritage to come to Australia in pursuit of a promising and secure life and Australian authorities are considerate of this fact. Apart from skilled and business migration visas, the Australian authorities have introduced myriad of visas that cover the family of the migrants. These visas include parents visa, partner visas and child visas.
Australia offers a wide range of parent visas that cater to various scenarios. These` visas are offered to biological or stepparents of migrants so that they can travel and live with their children in Australia. Like other visa type, there is a certain eligibility criterion set by Australian authorities before the visa grant for parents is issued.
The general eligibility criteria, applicable in most of the Australian parent visa cases, is mentioned below:
- The primary criteria for any parent visa to be granted by the Australian authorities is to have a child who is either an Australian citizen or a permanent resident.
- In most of the cases the Australian authorities require the applicants to be either in Australia or out. The applicant must not be under immigration clearance or immigration detention at the time of applying for the visa.
- The applicants must meet all applicable visa conditions and follow Australian law.
- Generally, for permanent parent visa, a balance of family test criteria is to be met. To meet the balance of family test, it is required that the parents must have:
- at least half of their children and stepchildren who are eligible children OR
- there are more eligible children living in Australia than in any other single country
- In some cases, it is also required that the applicants applying for the parent visa must be of a certain age. Usually, this age should be equal to or more than pensionable age in Australia.
- Sometimes an assurance bond is also required by the Australian authorities. In parent visa cases, this bond is provided by the children who are sponsoring their parent. The bond provides an Assurance of Support and Financial Bond to the Government. An assurance of support assures the Australian authorities that your parents will not have to rely on government assistance after they enter the country.
The general benefits associated with most of the Australian parent visa are:
- Stay, work and study in Australia
- Enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme – Medicare
- Sponsor your family members to come to Australia
- Travel to and from Australia for 5 years
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
